The Universal recording & transmitting precipitation gauge, P/N 5-780, converts the weight of collected precipitation into the equivalent depth of accumulated water in conventional units of inches or millimeters. An 8-inch (20.3cm) diameter, knife-edge orifice collects all forms of precipitation. Rain travels through a funnel into the galvanized weighing bucket. The funnel is removed during the winter season to collect snow. When sub-freezing temperatures are expected, anti-freeze is added to the bucket.

The Micro Rain Radar (MRR-2) is a vertical pointing Doppler Radar which derives precipitation parameters in a profile over the system.
The radar beam highlights air volumes with precipitation particles along the profile.  Detecting the frequency shift due to the movement of the precipitation particles and the backscattered energy from the different heights defines the number of drops per size class and altitude. 
The MRR-2 enables high quality measurements of precipitation free of influence from wind, sea spray or surroundings.
