HMEI Reports 2010

JOINT MEETING: CBS EXPERT TEAM ON AIRCRAFT BASED OBSERVATIONS (2nd SESSION) AND AMDAR PANEL (13thSESSION), GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, 5-7 OCTOBER 2010
Bryce L. Ford from SpectraSensors, Inc. was the HMEI representative attending this meeting and made the report for HMEI members.

INTRODUCTION: The Joint Meeting of the Second Session of the CBS Expert Team on Aircraft Observations, CBS ET-AIR, and the Thirteenth Session of the AMDAR Panel was held at WMO in Geneva, Oct 5-7, 2010. The meeting was opened by Dr Wenjian ZHANG, WMO Director of Observing and Information Systems, chaired by Mr. Frank Grooters, KNMI, and facilitated by the WMO AMDAR Technical Coordinator Mr. Michael Berechree. Delegates were present from Australia, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, The Russian Federation, Sweden, UK, USA, with representative from IATA and HMEI (Bryce L. Ford from SpectraSensors) also present. The full list of participants will be available in the Final WMO Report.

Report - ISO SC5, Meteorology meeting, Helsinki, Finland, 2 September 2010
The ISO SC5 meeting meeting, following the CIMO-TECO in Helsinki, was held in room E122 of the Wanha Satama convention center, starting at 9:00 on Thursday 2 September 2010. At the invitation of the chairperson of SC5, Rodica Nitu, the HMEI Executive Secretary Bruce Sumner attended the meeting. Mr Sumner made the following report for HMEI members.

The theme of TECO in 2010 was "Observing Technologies and Systems in Support of Evolving Demands on Weather Climate and Water Services".
Several HMEI members attended TECO. The the HMEI Executive Secretary, Bruce Sumner, and Administrator, Christine Charstone also attended and made the following report.

Report - Intergovernmental Meeting for the High-level Taskforce for the Global Framework for Climate Services, Geneva, Switzerland, 11-12 January 2010
The 3rd World Climate Conference (WCC-3), held in Geneva from 31 August to 4 September 2009, made a Declaration that called for a follow-up Intergovernmental Meeting for the High Level Taskforce (HLT) on the Global Framework for Climite Services (GFCS) within four months of the signing of the Declaration on 3 September 2009 (i.e. by 3 January 2010).

Bruce Sumner, as Executive Secretary of HMEI attended this meeting, on the invitation of WMO, as an observer. The WMO report of the proceedings of this meeting is available here

Minutes - HMEI Annual General Meeting held at the 90th AMS Meeting, in Atlanta, GA, USA, 9 January 2010
During the 90th meeting of the AMS the HMEI Annual General Meeting was held at 8am on Tuesday, 19 January 2010 in Room B204 of the Georgia World Congress Center Atlanta, GA, USA. Dr Fred Branski gave a talk updating meeting participants on the current WIGOS status.
