Commission for Hydrology
(CHy) 12th Session,
Geneva, 20 to 29 October 2004
HMEI was formally invited to attend the twelfth session of the
Commission for Hydrology (CHy).
The HMEI representatives at the meeting were:
Mr. Wolfgang Zasche from SEBA Hydrometrie, from 20th to 22nd of October;
Mr. Gerry
Allen from Lockheed Martin, from 23rd to 26th October;
and
The
HMEI Chairman, Mr. Ben Dieterink, from KIPP & ZONEN, and the HMEI
Executive Secretary from 27th to 29th October.
Gerry Allen from
Lockheed Martin sent in a report (click
here) on the part of
the meeting he attended and has outlined some interesting points for HMEI
and its members. The HMEI Secretariat will be following up on these points.
CIMO Expert Team Meeting on Surface Techniques and Measurement
Techniques - 1st Session - Geneva - 13 - 16 October 2004.
Hannu Kokko from Vaisala,
Gerhard Pevny from Logotronic,
Dr. Andrew Sandford
from Campbell Scientific (UK)
were the A1 Expert Team Members attending this
meeting.
This Expert Team meeting dealt with topics including issues on:
•
Standardization of AWS algorithms and present weather systems;
•
Industry development of state of the art instruments and automated
surface observation systems;
•
Progress of
urban and road meteorological measurements;
•
Future training needs and training materials.
The ET Chairman at this
meeting was Dr.Jitze P.van der Meulen from the Royal Netherlands
Meteorological Institute.

HMEI
Report of ISO/TC 146 Air Quality - Sub-committee
5 (SC5) – Meteorology - Stockholm, Sweden, 13-17 September 2004.
The
HMEI Executive Secretary, with the kind financial support of the HMEI
Chairman, was able to attend this meeting. This is the first meeting of
the International Standards Organization in which HMEI has been able to
participate.
HMEI was invited as a observer to Subcommittee 5 (SC5) - Meteorology by
the Secretary of that Subcommittee, Mr. Paul Fransioli. HMEI will now be a
future participant of ISO meetings within the meteorological area. Click

WMO CBS Expert Team on Requirements For Data
From Automatic Weather Stations -3rd Session,
Geneva, 28 June - 2 July 2004. Several HMEI members expressed
interested in this meeting but were unable to attend personally. Therefore
the HMEI Executive Secretary and Administrator represented the HMEI at the meeting.

The 56th World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Executive Council,
8th to 18th June 2004 in Geneva.
The
HMEI Chairman - Ben Dieterink, the HMEI
Executive Secretary and the HMEI Administrator attended as the HMEI
representatives at the Council. Ben Dieterink was able to attend for the
first two days of the session and the Secretariat attended for the
whole of the session.
The WMO
Secretary General, Michel Jarraud, in his report to the Executive Council,
acknowledged the contribution of HMEI to the progress the Instruments and
Methods of Observation Programme has made in the area of Training and
Capacity Building.
The HMEI Chairman,
Mr. Dieterink, in addressing the
Council, stressed
the ongoing readiness of HMEI and its member companies to be involved with
WMO in supporting programmes within is purview. He pointed out
that HMEI’s willingness to participate in increasing expertise and
know-how in applying modern instrumentation and technologies for observing
required parameters, with a view to mutual benefits for the worldwide user
community and manufacturers.

The
WMO Joint
Meeting of the CIMO Expert Team on Upper-air Systems Intercomparisons and
International Organizing Committee on Upper-air Systems Intercomparisons
was held on 18-20 March 2004 in Geneva.

CIMO Expert Team Meeting
on Surface-based Instrument Intercomparisons and Calibration Methods
This was a joint meeting with the International Organizing Committee
(IOC) on Surface-based Intercomparisons. It was held on 24-28 November
2003 in Trappes, France.
