14th session of Regional Association VI (Europe), 7-15 September, 2005 Heidelberg, Germany

Attending as HMEI representatives:

Luis Gomez from SIAP + MICROS
Dyrk Peters from Hydrometeorological Instruments & Facilities

The organizers provided a
small exhibition area for the HMEI manufacturers attending the meeting.

Report from Mr. Gomez:
I attended the meeting on the 8th and 9th September.

The RA-VI meeting was very interesting and there was excellent support for the exhibition.

Briefly, the main points that I want to highlight are:

There was an interesting discussion about the big GAP that exists between East and West Europe regarding the surface hydrometeorological  measurements, and the need to fill this gap. Different countries asked the WMO to promote projects in order to fill this gap.

Russia confirms its interest to be member of EUMETSAT, this in order to use the great potentialities of the  2nd Generation satellites and related Meteorological information and products.

The new president and vice-president election.

A general impression was that the two big blocks (East - West Europe) continues to exist however respecting the past, there is a big and reciprocal interest to collaborate.

Report from Mr Peters:

Mr. Peters is currently overseas and will provide his section of the report on his return.
