THE HMEI MEMBER PRODUCT CATALOGUE

The HMEI Secretariat has created a new feature on the HMEI web site, the HMEI Member Product Catalogue.

This new initiative gives all members of HMEI the ability to be easily found according to the different categories of products they produce.

Interested customers and users of meteorological products will find it a valuable and comprehensive reference. It is a guide to the best hydro-meteorological products and manufacturers worldwide.

As an on-line catalogue it gives customers and users links directly to the HMEI member companies. No summarizing of products that quickly becomes outdated, this catalogue is updated frequently and is a portal to the most up-to-date information direct from the manufactures themselves.

New Member Information
This section provides information written and supplied to us by the member companies themselves. HMEI bears no responsibility for, nor endorses this information.

YOKOGAWA DENSHIKIKI CO.,Ltd.
Yokogawa Denshikiki Co., Ltd. was funded in 1960. The capital is 300 M yen. The company has five main business domains. Those are Defense, Environment, Navigation/aviation and aerospace, Kitchen facility, Data transmission/security and combustion.
In the business areas, products are required to have high quality and reliability, as well as high performance, since they are usually operated under harsh environmental conditions. As a consequence we are continuing research and development activities to surpass existing state-of-the-art technology. The environmental department covers meteorological and hydrological sensors, data acquisition system, data transmission system, data processing system, engineering of system and maintenance service. These are high accuracy pressure sensors, water level meter, radio flow meter, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, anemometer, rain gauge, laser snow depth meter, atmospheric pressure sensor, heliograph, dew point meter, battery driven field logger, filed information server, information integration software, small to large system engineering capability and nation wide maintenance service.

RADIOMETRICS CORPORATION
Radiometrics Corporation develops and manufacturers microwave radiometers for atmospheric remote sensing. These patented passive instruments provide continuous profiles of atmospheric temperature and humidity up to 10 km in height, and a single layer cloud liquid profile. The cycle time is less than 20 seconds. The accuracy of radiosondes and radiometer temperature and humidity soundings are equivalent when used in numerical weather analysis. A radiometric profiler provides timely upper air soundings for improved short term precipitation and fog forecasting.

SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation)
ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS OPERATION

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States, providing information technology, systems integration and eSolutions to commercial and government customers.
Our information systems and technology solutions are helping speed and improve service delivery and giving decision makers better information to make decisions. Our next generation networks are helping clients create new markets in converged voice, video, and data services. Our e-business solutions are creating unprecedented collaboration and efficiency throughout complex value chains. Our wireless solutions are opening up new communications with remote areas faster and better than ever before. SAIC is also a portal to advanced technologies. We provide access to the latest technologies developed by a host of organizations worldwide, including our own world-class research organizations. We bring more than three decades of experience making new technologies succeed in real-world, real-time business.

TOTEX CORPORATION
TOTEX Corporation, founded in 1937, are specialists in manufacturing all sizes of Meteorological Balloons and supply internationally these quality balloons to North America, Latin/South America, Western Europe, NIS/Eastern Europe, Asia, Australia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
We firmly believe that the extensive experience we now have will enable us to contribute towards the continued improvement of weather observation around the world.

SIPPICAN Inc.
Sippican, Inc. is a world leader in the design and manufacture of meteorological and oceanographic instrumentation, underwater vehicles, submarine communication, and countermeasure systems. Sippican is a leading international supplier of radiosondes upper air processing systems, with customers in over 70 countries throughout the world. A variety of system and configurations are available to meet the requirements of synoptic, military, and research/scientific users, for both fixed and mobile upper air sounding applications.
Sippican is the only company in the world capable of providing a single, fully integrated system for performing shipboard radiosonde and expendable bathythermograph (XBT) soundings.

VECTOR INSTRUMENTS
(Windspeed Ltd)
Vector Instruments (Windspeed Ltd) is mainly concerned with the development and production of wind measuring sensors. Widely known as a supplier of the Porton anemometer which was originally developed for micro-met applications, the company is now an important supplier to the wind power industry. Here, the requirement for ever more exacting standards has driven product development in this specialized field. However, the company's range of anemometers and other sensors have, and continue to be employed in many 'traditional' meteorological fields since their initial development in the 1970s.
Besides anemometers, the product range includes a potentiometer windvane, a self-referencing windvane for use on floating platforms, a precision aspirated temperature sensor of Met Office design and a psychrometer, as well as items of signal conditioning and display equipment.

TIANJIN METEOROLOGICAL INSTRUMENT WORKS
Tianjin Meteorological Instruments Factory possesses a variety of advanced manufacturing and inspecting methods, as well as satisfactory quality keeping and service system.
Our main products: some 40 kinds of apparatus, instruments and sensors, covering all sorts of measurements in wind direction, wind velocity, rainfall, evaporation, temperature, humidity, radiation, sunshine, etc.; various kinds of automatic meteorological stations, single rainfall station, single wind measuring station, radiation station, fully automatic sun tracker; five categories of inspecting apparatus of meteorological instruments of air pressure, humidity, temperature coefficient, rainfall, wind tunnel, etc.

CASELLA CEL
Casella CEL Ltd. are specialist providers of environmental monitoring technologies for a wide range of environmental health and safety issues. The extensive range of instrumentation manufactured and supplied includes real-time dust and noise monitors, indoor air quality monitors, meteorological equipment and environmental enclosures for PM10 and PM2.5 monitoring.

ITU MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

As reported in the last Newsletter the Executive Secretary was networking with various Organizations, including the
International Telecommunication Union seeking to expand the influence of HMEI and its members.

HMEI applied for Associate Membership of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Study Group 7,  which deals with Radio Frequency allocations and procedures. However the 10,500chf annual fee was too great for the HMEI budget at this stage and an exemption to the fee was requested in view of the limited HMEI budget. Despite the strong support for our application by Mr. Jean-Michel Rainer in the Secretariat of the Commission for Basic Systems (CBS) and the support of the Chairman of the Working Party for 7C, Mr. Eduardo Marelli, the request for an exemption has been denied. Therefore HMEI will not at this point be able to be a separate voting member of Study Group 7.

However Mr. Jean-Michel Rainer  has offered to allow the HMEI Executive Secretary to participate as a member of the WMO delegation. Thus HMEI will be able to
attend relevant meetings and have an input into the work of this group.

NEXT HMEI GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN EUROPE

The next General Assembly for the HMEI is proposed to be held during CIMO Technical Conference and METEOREX 2005 in Bucharest,
Romania in May 2005. The Chairman Ben Dieterink has proposed this move, in order that the General Assembly could be attended more easily by European HMEI members. The proposal will need to be discussed and ratified by the HMEI Council in full. Further news on this will be given in the next newsletter.
