Association of Hydro-Meteorological Equipment Industry at 86th AMS Jan. 2006 

An HMEI General Assembly was held at 86th AMS, 9.15am on Tuesday 31st January 2006 in Room A310, Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
 
The announcement of the HMEI General Assembly and an article on HMEI was featured on the front-page of the Monday 30th January BAM, the daily paper of the AMS Exhibition and Conference.

HMEI  also had a booth at the AMS 86th General Assembly Exhibition. Where the Executive Secretary was in attendance with the latest edition of the HMEI Catalogue on CD available for visitors and with the HMEI website live on line for visitors to the booth to see.

REPORT -  CIMO ET on Meteorological Radiation and Atmospheric Composition Measurements, 6-10 February 2006, Davos, Switzerland

The HMEI was represented at this meeting by Mr. Kees Hoogendijk from Kipp & Zonen, Bruce Sumner and Christine Charstone from the HMEI Secretariat.

Mr.
Hoogendijk made some pertinent and useful observations to the meeting. He has been invited to pass his comments on amendments to Chapter 7 of the CIMO Guide,
to Dr Bruce Forgan, so that they can included in the Chapter's revision.

These two meetings follow on one from the other, with a break on the Sunday in-between.

The EGU General Assembly 2006 aims to bring together geoscientists from all over Europe and the rest of the world into one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences.

Mr. Pevny made his generous gesture at the HMEI General Assembly in Atlanta. Mr Pevny said that he believes it would be beneficial for the HMEI Secretariat to attend EGU in Vienna in April, to make contact with potential new members and to generally introduce HMEI to as many people as possible. 9-16 May, WMO Regional Association V (South-West Pacific)-14th Session, Adelaide, Australia

HMEI has received the official invitation to attend this session. HMEI Members with an interest in this Region may wish to attend this meeting. 

Items in the agenda include:

Looking at the Integrated Observing System (IOS) and Instruments and Methods of Observation Programme (IMOP), including issues related to Instrument Development, Training and Capacity Building.

A review of the Information Systems and Services (ISS); including reviewing the status of WWW Data Management in the Region, codes and migration to table driven codes and matters related to radio frequencies for meteorological activities.

Information on the development of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS).

Report on the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW), including support to ozone and other environment-oriented conventions.

The implementation of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), including THORPEX.

Review of the Technical Cooperation Programme (TCPO) in the Region, including the WMO Voluntary Cooperation Programme development of partnerships with funding institutions, national governments and development partners.

Hydrology, Marine and Aeronautical Meteorological Programmes in the Region will also be discussed.

The two major WMO Intercomparisons held and/or finalized in 2005, with which HMEI manufacturers were considerably involved, have now had their Final Reports published on the CIMO website.

New director of the World Weather Watch (WWW) in WMO

The former Director of WWW in WMO Dieter Schiessl has retired from his position as of February 2006. Mr Schiessl was much involved with the initial set-up of HMEI and is well know with the HMEI founding members.

The new Director of WWW is now Mr John L. Hayes, from the USA. Jack Hayes is well know and respected in the meteorological community. HMEI will be interested in meeting and working with the new Director. Bruce Sumner, the HMEI Executive Secretary, will be arranging to formally meet with Mr Hayes later this in March.
