WMO ETs and TORs Member Meetings International Meetings Exhibitions Intercomparisons

HMEI cooperates with various WMO Commissions, NMHSs and other Organizations, to raise the profile of HMEI and seek new opportunities for HMEI and its members. HMEI activities are varied and continuing to increase in scope.

 World Meteorological Organization (WMO) - HMEI has Consultative Status with this organization and the HMEI office is in the WMO building in Geneva.
The HMEI Secretariat staff and on some occasions members of the HMEI Council have attended since 2003 the WMO Executive Councils and Congress in Geneva, at which the cooperation of HMEI with WMO departments has been noted with appreciation. 

CIMO
Expert Teams - HMEI has been extensively involved with CIMO since 2003. The reports pages of this website has reports of CIMO meetings attended by HMEI. The Acting President of CIMO, Ray Canterford, is very aware and supportive of HMEI’s involvement in the CIMO Expert Teams (ETs).  HMEI members have also been participants at and supporters of recent major CIMO Intercomparisons, see the link at the top of this page.

Commission for Hydrology (CHy) 
HMEI has been involved with CHy since 2004 and attended two CHy Regional Association Workshops in 2005. See our reports page in this website for the reports of these meetings.

Commission for Basic Systems (CBS) Since 2004 HMEI has attended various CBS meetings, working on data and radio frequency issues. See our reports pages in this website for the reports of these meetings.

 
Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology (CAeM) President, Neil Gordon, has been contacted by HMEI in 2005. He is keen for HMEI to be involved in Expert Teams in the areas of both Integration of Systems and Observations in the Terminal Area. HMEI has companies who have expressed an interest in joining ETs in this area and HMEI has attended meetings of CAeM. Commission for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS)  HMEI has begun collaboration with this Commission. Chairman, Ben Dieterink, attended the 14th session of CAS, on behalf of HMEI, in Cape Town, South Africa in February 2006. Commission for  Climatology, (CCl) HMEI has also started collaboration with CCl. HMEI Councillor, Mr. LU hui guo from Tianjin Meteorological Instruments Factory, China, represented HMEI at the 14th Session of the Commission for Climatology, Beijing, China, in November 2005.

Joint Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) HMEI first attended the Ship Observations Team, 3rd Session in France in March 2005. See the reports of JCOMM meetings HMEI has attended in the reports pages of this website.
 

International Organization for Standardization (ISO). HMEI involvement with the ISO is in accordance with the aims and objectives of our Association, to be a voice for the Hydro-Meteorological Equipment Industry in discussions concerning requirements, designs, standards and operations of meteorological instruments and equipment and associated methodologies and international standardization within the industry.
HMEI is invited to attend the ISO/TC 146 (Air Quality) Committee Meetings HMEI participation is favourably received and HMEI now has Liaison Status with ISO.

 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) participation. HMEI extends its thanks to the offer from Mr. Jean-Michel Rainer in the Secretariat of the Commission for Basic Systems (CBS) at WMO
, to allow the HMEI Executive Secretary to participate as a member of the WMO delegation. the Chairman of the Working Party for 7C, Mr. Eduardo Marelli, is also very supportive of HMEI input in this area. HMEI now  attends relevant meetings and has an input into the work of the ITU Study Group 7 group which deals with Radio Frequency allocations and procedures.

HMEI  and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) - HMEI has a strong co-operative relationship with AMS. HMEI often holds its General Assembly meetings at the AMS Annual Meetings. HMEI members always make up a considerable part of those exhibiting at AMS.

HMEI is on the AMS Exhibit Advisory Council. The HMEI Executive Secretary, Bruce Sumner, is the HMEI representative there. 

HMEI  and the European Meteorological Society (EMS) - HMEI has strong links with EMS. HMEI exhibits at EMS each year, at a booth provided thanks to EMS. HMEI provides feedback on the EMS Exhibition to the EMS, from the exhibiting manufacturers viewpoint, as HMEI Members are a large portion of those at EMS each year. HMEI is working with EMS to promote and improve the exhibition component of the EMS Conference held yearly.  HMEI at times holds Council or General Assembly meetings at the EMS Annual Meetings.
